The Nostalgia Box

So, I've got a bit behind in my blog writing! I've been wanting to write a short article about a recent trip to Australia that I made where I had the pleasure (you know, if you like that kind of thing) of visiting the fantastic Nostalgia Box console and video game museum in Perth.

It's unlike many other places that I've seen around the world and here in the UK (and surprisingly there are actually a fair few of these places scattered around, including Helsinki, Italy and the US), particularly because it succeeds at actually being a museum and also actually being fun! More often than not the focus of these places can be on the fun part without actually giving out any useful and interesting info and anecdotes about these classic games and consoles as well as the formation of the videogame industry that we all love. Then there are the places that are a little....dry shall we say.

The Nostalgia Box (love that name) features a large large (large) selection of consoles and computers, interspersed with the history of the early days of videogames, pictures and boxes. There's also a dedicated area for actually playing some of the best selection of these consoles and, much like us, they run events based around these consoles!

Of course, these places will never be to everyone's taste. Having said that, I was there on New Years day and there was a steady stream of people throughout the couple of hours I was there.

I mention this all because ultimately, this is the kind of model we are going for with our ambitions for a large final location somewhere. The added thing we would of course have that these guys didn't have would be to feature Arcade Cabinets mostly because, well, we're called The Arcade Vaults (which was for a reason!) but also because of the importance of the Arcade generally in the video game industry.

In the end, it bodes well that places like these exist and are having success. If you ever get to go to Perth, make sure you pay them a visit!
